The Gutenberg Project:
Free public domain books to your
hearts desire. If you are looking for a book and it is in the
public domain, this should be your first stop. A little tip from
me to you though. When you find a book and you are just about to
download it. Go to Google, and do a search for the filename
incremented by 1. For example I went to downoad treasure island
and it showed the latest version was treas10.zip. If you go to
Google and search for treas11.zip, sure enough it comes up. I had
the same problem with Jo's Boys. I got version 10 which had a lot
of problems and later found there was actually a version 12. So
go to Gutenberg, find the file, and then go to Google and make
sure there isn't a newer version.
